The Awards and Accolades Are Absolutely Right

Naomi Novik is best known for her completed nine-book series Temeraire. But that might be changing now.

Because a few years ago, she wrote Uprooted, a stand alone fantasy that quickly became one of my favorite books of all time. I wasn’t the only one who felt that way. Uprooted won the Nebula Award, was nominated for the Hugo Award, and the amount of praise heaped on it is undeniable. It is one of those magical books that come along every so often, able to capture a reader as completely as any book can and transport them to a new world. The prose is beautiful. The main character is believable. There is just enough romance to make the heart flutter at times. And how the story unfolds and its conclusion are worth every read word that comes before.

The Hollywood rights for Uprooted were quickly snatched up in a heated bidding ware by Ellen Degeneres and Warners Bros. I don’t usually desire adaptations to be made of my favorite books but this is one I’d cheer for if it went into production!

In short, it is a book you should read. Believe the awards. Believe the accolades. And believe me. You really do need to read Uprooted if you haven’t. It is storytelling at its most magical.
